For the first time ever... this year we have brought in bees to help with pollination and fruit set... It is a busy and crucial time on the orchard to ensure we have lots of apples for the coming season!

We are currently in the process of grafting approx 8000 new Jazz Trees from Root stocks and cuttings from our established Jazz trees... It's a bit of a process but it will pay off in the end! These will be planted on the new orchard alongside the Jazz we planted in November last year!
The ground being prepared, trees put into a seasol solution and the very first plantings of 12,000 Jazz trees at the New Property!
Its Full Bloom in the orchard! A very busy time for us! We are repairing and putting more hail netting up to cover the new fruit. Also preparing the new property to plant amongst a number of other jobs... A beautiful time of the year though! A very busy and important time for these gorgeous and very needed creatures also! In stage one of our new block set up... We are getting geared up to hand plant 12 thousand baby jazz trees over the coming weeks, we then have to wait approximately 3years for the first harvest! In the mean time there is so much to do on the orchard to keep us out of trouble! Thank you very much to all attendees at our inaugural orchard open day today. A fun and fruitful (!) day was had by all. We started with a BBQ and tour of the packing shed, followed by an orchard walk. Everyone enjoyed learning about new methods, such as trees planted as close as 50cm apart and varieties they had never tasted before. We also got to see the original Alvina Gala tree. We hope everyone had a safe drive home and got a lot out of their day in the country. You don't have to wait for market day to get Fankhauser Apples!
If you place an order at Indulge Cafe (Hope St, Drouin) before Thursday any week, Lauren will fill it for Friday pick-up. Indulge also stocks Summer Snow juices. Grab a coffee while you're there, it's the best in town. And did you know - apples can actually wake you up more effectively than coffee? http://www.reference.com/motif/Food_and_Drinks/do-apples-wake-you-up-better-than-coffee What a great way to indulge! By Lauren and Mary. We're picking Alvina Galas, ready for market.
Come on down to the Drouin Craft & produce market tomorrow morning in Civic Park for the first taste of the season! Brad & Darlene look forward to seeing you there.
